Sustainability Roadmap

Statements from Senior Management

Words from the Chairman

Looking back on 2022, the world was immersed in ongoing turmoil. Following the second wave of the COVID-19 outbreak, just when people were hoping for a light at the end of the tunnel, the war between Russia and Ukraine – the largest in Europe since World War II – broke out, triggering a global energy crisis and inflation. The floods and fires caused by global climate change have been yet another disruption for our lives in the pandemic era. As a people-centered security provider, we at Shin Kong Security (SKS) not only stay on top of global trends and provide corresponding intelligent services, but also value every interconnected aspect of global sustainability. Every year, we do self-reflection to update and relearn our understanding of sustainability, in hopes of rooting values of sustainability deeply within our corporate culture.

High-quality trade agreements such as the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) are incorporating ESG. This is a global trend that does not permit any delay. SKS’s corporate culture is “Honesty and Implementation”, and our ESG report is presented in the same manner. This Report honestly reveals the Company’s economic, environmental and social management policies and sustainable performance in 2022, in the hope of implementing sustainability issues, aligning with international standards, maintaining corporate competitiveness, and extending our golden opportunity to co-exist with the Earth through sustainability built by enterprises in the public and private sectors.

The Global Risks Report 2022 reveals climate action failures. We must take this as a warning; we must firmly move forward, because there is no room to shirk back. In early 2023, Taiwan passed the Climate Change Response Act, showing the government’s determination to promote Net Zero and sustainability by 2050. Shin Kong Security will continue working hard to develop low-carbon and zero-carbon smart green technology and combine it with the new wave of 5G AIoT services, to provide comprehensive smart city and smart life services, from security and safety services to smart technology security.

According to the 2020 data released by the Environmental Protection Administration, the annual per capita carbon emissions in Taiwan are equivalent to 10.92 metric tons per person, much higher than in Japan or countries in the European Union or elsewhere. In 2023, SKS will strive to continuously optimize and move toward three goals: Flexibility Responsiveness, Talent Sustainability, and Product Integration. In the short term, we expect to optimize the existing product functions and focus on specific carbon reduction results; while in the long term, we aim to build an integrated service monitoring platform, developing new lifestyles for the net zero roadmap. Through this report, we also declare that, in terms of corporate governance, social responsibility and environmental protection, all of us at SKS are working together to develop a culture of accountability for sustainable development and to make our contribution to the sustainability of the Earth.
