Partnering with the Ministry of Agriculture and Local Farmers to Build an Eco-Friendly Farmland Ecosystem
SKS continues to advance environmental sustainability by signing the “Memorandum of Understanding on Lanyang Plain Farmland Ecological Development” in Sanxing Township, Yilan, together with the Hualien District Agricultural Research and Extension Station of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Worthy farmers. As a demonstration enterprise under the Ministry of Agriculture’s Agricultural Sustainability ESG Matching Platform (ESG STORE), SKS focuses on three key pillars — habitat development, environmental education, and sustainable consumption — to promote the co-prosperity of biodiversity and local agriculture, demonstrating strong collaboration among industry, government, and academia.
Through scientific observation and the development of pollinator friendly habitats, SKS supports farmland ecological conservation. The initiative includes establishing solitary bee habitats as monitoring and pollination demonstration sites, while integrating organic farming, biodiversity workshops, and parent-child farming experiences to deepen public awareness of sustainability. In addition, SKS supports local farmers through farmland adoption programs, procurement of eco-friendly agricultural products, and farmers’ markets, helping stabilize agricultural income while promoting environmentally responsible consumption.
Looking ahead, SKS will continue aligning with the United Nations SDGs by expanding initiatives such as nature observation records and circular applications for agricultural waste. Through these efforts, the Company aims to strengthen the resilience of local communities and enterprises, safeguard the natural habitats of the Lanyang Plain, and promote a sustainable vision of harmony between people and nature for future generations.
Cross-Domain Sustainability: Building a Circular Economy from Farmland to Ocean
SKS’s long-standing Charity Rice Program has continued to expand beyond farmland boundaries through the launch of the “Eco-Brick Project,” creating a circular economy model that connects farmland and marine ecosystems. Agricultural waste generated after rice harvesting, including rice straw, is converted into environmentally friendly biochar bricks with carbon sequestration benefits. In June 2025, employees traveled to Penghu to personally place these biochar bricks into the ocean as coral restoration bases, giving agricultural waste a second life while taking the first step toward marine ecological restoration.
This cross-disciplinary initiative demonstrates SKS’s diversified approach to biodiversity practices. By transforming agricultural waste into nurseries for coral growth, the Company hopes to help establish healthier reef habitats in the waters of Penghu. Healthy coral ecosystems can also provide ecological benefits for marine species such as fish and sea turtles. Moving forward, SKS will continue using this initiative as a foundation for further projects and partnerships, making both farmland and oceans important sites for advancing environmental sustainability.
